Personality: Irisviel is a being of compassion, first and foremost. The love she has for her husband, Kiritsugu Emiya, is literally the defining point in her personality. When she was brought into this world through artficial means, she was a blank slate. Devoid of any emotion or motivation, she acted as nothing but the tool the Einzbern family intended to use her as. But then Kiritsugu was brought to the castle, and he began interacting with Irisviel, treating her as a person rather than a puppet. She responded to his compassion and began developing a personality of her own, thriving on the care and eventual love given to her by this man who would eventually become her husband. This, of course, also sparked a deep devotion to the man within her. She follows him without question, and supports his ideals, even though she admits that she can't understand them. She simply wishes to act as the caring, devoted wife that Kiritsugu deserves.

Though he is the main target, her compassion isn't only for her husband. Irisviel gets along quite well with Kiritsugu's Servant, Saber. Irisviel's natural elegance and nobility and Saber's knightly demenor make the two quite a good pair, and Irisviel - who as mentioned, can understand the feeling of being treated as just a tool or object for another to claim their desire - is one of the few people in the Fourth War who treats Saber like she's a person at all. She also has great trust in Maiya Hisau, Kiritsugu's accomplice. Even though she knows there's something going on between the two, and she is slightly troubled over the fact that Maiya sees a side of Kiritsugu that Irisviel never sees, she never once shows any hint of negative emotion towards Maiya, and instead is grateful for Maiya's presence, as there's more than one person looking out for one of the people most precious to her.

Irisviel is... well. A very pure individual. That's really the only way to describe her. Paired with her devotion is a sunny disposition that many may not expect the creation of an age-old mage family from the far north to have. Due to being sheltered for the entirety of her short life, she has a very childlike sense of curiosity when it comes to the outside world, and while she understands a lot of aspects of it thanks to the books, pictures, and videos Kiritsugu gave her, she has a bit of trouble putting that knowledge to practical use - see how she drives a car, for example. She's actually a very good driver, but she has no understanding of... well. Traffic laws. She treats it like a toy and doesn't really understand the danger that comes with driving at breakneck speeds down a winding mountain road. She's smart, most definitely, but doesn't have "street smarts" to back up her knowledge. She's shown to be a bit troubled because of this in one discussion with Saber, but she quickly covers it up. Because of her sheltered life, she may come off as a bit naive, but not foolishly so.

Despite all this, Irisviel isn't some demure woman who will bow to others without question. As devoted as she is to her husband, she does question him from time to time - she was clearly upset with what he did concerning Lancer and his Master, and while she wasn't as verbally harsh as Saber was during the aftermath of that battle she, too, voiced her disapproval to Kiritsugu. She can also be quite fierce when it comes to true opponents, as well. Even when it was clear that she was outmatched against Kirei Kotomine, she still fought on. When he captured her later on in the series, she refused to show fear, and met his anger with her own firm, unwavering determination. With her death slowly closing in, Iri did not break, and met whatever she was faced with head-on with surprisingly little fear.

Abilities: Irisviel is a homunculus - an artificially created person - created as a vessel for the Holy Grail. This pretty much just means that as more Servants are defeated, her body absorbs their spirits, and will eventually break down into the Grail itself. There is no way to reverse this process, as it was the single reason Irisviel was created. It was able to be stalled, though, when she had Avalon - the sheath of Saber's holy sword Excalibur - stored magically inside of her. In addition to stalling her body's degenration, this gave her an amazing healing factor when in close proximity to Saber, but as she's from a canonpoint where she no longer is in possession of Avalon, she won't have these abilities in the tower.

As a homunculus created by the Einzbern family, one of the three most powerful families in the entire magical community, Irisviel has a lot of potential outside of her designated role as the Holy Grail's vessel! Her magic is powered by Magic Circuits, a sort of nervous system that all magi are born with that determines how powerful they are at their craft. She has enough circuits to be considered a fairly powerful magus - she was able to resist the effects of Lancer's charm spell, something only extremely powerful magi and Servants with high Magic Resistance can do. Another ability she has as a homunculus is the ability to shut down one (or more) of her five senses. With the sense dampened, this allows her to focus her attention and energy on other things.

The magecraft of the Einzbern family focuses on alchemy: the ability to create, forge, and manipulate matter. Normally this isn't an offensive kind of magic, but Kiritsugu taught Iri how to weaponize it, and so her choice of weapon is a set of long, thin wires she can magically manipulate to do various things, such as binding her opponents, or even creating animal familiars (in her single battle she favored an eagle) to attack any target. She can also perform healing magecraft, and as a first-rate magus, is capable of healing wounds of various intensity. Another ability of hers is creating bounded fields, magecraft that can seal even immense areas in a magical barrier. She can easily sense enemies within a bounded field, and can even determine who these enemies are if she focuses enough. In tandem with this, she possesses a crystal ball she can use to help her observe enemies, relaying both visuals and audio back to her.

While not exactly an ability or lack thereof, it should be noticed that Irisviel is incredibly technologically inept, due to the fear of technology most magi have. She's become somewhat used to it thanks to Kiritsugu, but it's still pretty bad - it's noted in the novels that she finds even just reading text on a computer screen extremely odd.
